Board of Education Meetings
Board of Education meetings are open to the public and are usually held on the fourth Monday of each month in the auditorium at RMS at 7 p.m. Check the district website at for dates and times.

Programs and Activities
The following programs and activities are sponsored by the PTA and run by parent volunteers. If you are interested in helping with any of these projects, please contact the committee coordinator listed in the PTA Telephone Directory.

8th Grade Graduation Dance
The 8th grade graduation dance is held toward the end of the school year in the Ridgedale gym, to celebrate graduation from 8th grade. Committee members coordinate a theme and work on various sub-committees. Many volunteers are needed to successfully run this event.

Arts in Education
The Arts in Education program is responsible for all aspects of the assemblies program at our three schools. It entails researching many leads and making recommendations to the school principals and PTA Board members for approval on each assembly. Upon approval, the VP of the Arts in Education program is responsible for securing the contracts with the guest for the assembly and ensuring all logistics are handled for the event. Our objective is to offer assemblies that are both meaningful and entertaining for our children. We are always looking for new ideas! If you have any suggestions for future assemblies, please contact the VP of Arts in Education.

Book Fair
The Book Fair is held twice a year in each school. Details are provided the week before, including information on when your child’s class will be going to the book fair so that they can bring money to purchase books, if they wish. Coordinator is responsible for working with the vendor to schedule the fair, communicate the fair to families, and schedule volunteers to assist during the event

Brooklake Fun Nights
Fun nights for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade are held once or twice a year on a Friday night in the Brooklake gymnasium. The nature of the event is determined by the coordinators.  Snacks/drinks are provided and there is a nominal fee charged to cover the cost of the event. Coordinator is responsible for organizing the event, working with the school to organize the event and schedule parent volunteers for the evening.

Holiday Gift Shop
The Holiday Gift Shop is a chance for children to purchase small holiday gifts for their families. Gift items are typically priced between $.50 and $10 dollars. It is typically held in the beginning of December, and is run by parent volunteers. Details are provided at that time along with an envelope to send in shopping money. Coordinator is responsible for working with the vendor schedule event, set up gift shop, and schedule volunteers to assist during the event.

Ridgedale Dances
A couple of dances are held in the Ridgedale gym for RMS students during the year. Committee members coordinate and chaperone the event.

Ridgedale Talent Show
The Talent Show is open to all Ridgedale students and usually takes place over 2 evenings in March. Ticket sales from this event are used to offset the cost of the 8th grade dance. Committee members are responsible for organizing and promoting the event within the school and to the community.

School Lunch Program
The PTA subsidizes a hot lunch program at each school, where meals are cooked on-site by a caterer. Families have the option of ordering items from a set menu. Items selected are served on the given day each week for each lunch session. Detailed menus and instructions for ordering hot lunch are distributed 7 times a year.  There is a chairperson for the program who coordinates with our caterer for menus, ordering and inputting in our ordering software system.

Apparel Sale
This committee arranges for various apparel items (school and/or town-related) to be sold to families in the district in the fall, serving as a fundraiser for our organization.

Box Tops
Throughout the year, we ask families to collect Box Tops. Collection boxes are located in the lobby of each school. Parent volunteers gather and submit the box tops to earn cash and product rewards for the schools.

Carnival Commitee
This committee will coordinate a district-wide carnival to be held in early May. Responsible for organizing inflatables with vendor, concessions, ticket sales and games for the event.   The carnival will be a fun event for all families while also serving as a fundraiser. 

Color-a-thon Committee
A color-a-thon is a new district-wide event that will be introduced in the fall - as you run/walk/dance through the course, you will get showered in powdered safe colorful dye throughout the course!  A fun event for students of all ages while raising monies for our schools.  The committee will be in charge of coordinating the event.

Fall Fundraiser (Wrapping paper and gifts)
The fall fundraiser is one of the PTA’s main fundraisers for the year. Catalogs and information are distributed to all students to participate in selling wrapping paper and gifts. Specific details on the program are sent at that time. The coordinator and committee are responsible for working with the vendor, promoting the program, distributing all communications for the program, collecting orders, and distributing products when they are delivered.

The KidStuff Fundraiser allows families to purchase coupon books in the fall. Each child in Briarwood and Brooklake will receive a book and families can decide if they’d like to purchase or else return the book.

Spring Prize Party Auction
The Spring Prize Party Auction (Tricky Tray) is one of the PTA’s main fundraising events of the year, and is usually held in the spring. Several sub-committees participate in selecting a theme and planning all aspects of the event.

Community Outreach

Holiday Gift Drive
During the early part of December, the PTA asks for donations of new, unwrapped toys for children. All toys are donated to the Morris County Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS). Collection bins are located in all three schools. Coordinator is responsible for promoting the program, collection of items, and coordinating delivery with DYFS.

Thanksgiving Food Drive
During the month of November, the PTA asks for donations of non-perishable food items for the Florham Park Food Pantry. Items go to Florham Park families in need. The food drive has recently been expanded to run all year. Collections bins are located in all three schools. Coordinator is responsible for monitoring the needs of the food bank, promoting the drive, collecting supplies and coordinating delivery with the food bank.

Board of Education Liaison
The Board of Education Liaison attends Board of Education meetings and reports back to the PTA on any relevant issue or events.

Class Parent
Class parents are selected by the teachers in each class to assist them in coordinating various classroom activities as well as communicating with the other parents in the class. This includes creating the class list, helping with parties and other classroom activities, attending PTA meetings to represent your class, and collecting class funds.  Class parents are expected to attend PTA general meetings throughout the year.

Membership Drive
The Membership committee organizes the annual membership drive which usually takes place during back to school night. This includes sharing information about the PTA and its activities, encouraging volunteers and collecting membership dues.

Moms Night Out
This committee organizes events where mothers can meet one another and socialize in various venues. 

Schoolkidz Back to School Packs, Ridgedale, Brooklake and Briarwood
Coordinates the ordering and distribution of school supplies amongst families with an outside vendor in spring for pickup late summer.

The Sunshine coordinator is responsible for sending cards or gifts to Florham Park school district staff and Board members in acknowledgement of special events. (New baby, wedding, achievements, illness, etc.)

Teacher Appreciation Week
This committee coordinates all activities for Teacher Appreciation Week. This includes purchasing gifts, scheduling lunches, or sending notes and cards to teachers in the district.

Teacher Grants
The PTA Board sets aside money each year to award to teachers throughout the district. Letters and applications go to the entire staff asking them to submit proposals for projects that go above and beyond what is normally provided for through the school budget. The program both thanks teachers for all that they do as well as encourages them to try new and exciting things in the classroom. The committee coordinates the process and reviews applications for selection.

Track Coordinator
Establish track schedule and meets for RMS, Brooklake and HP. Meet with Board Office for permit submission and to establish busing. Practices run from April to June.

Yearbook, Brooklake
The Brooklake Yearbook is available for purchase by Brooklake students. The coordinator photographs the Brooklake students for publication in the yearbook, designs the yearbook, works with the yearbook company as well as the Brooklake principal and staff, and coordinates yearbook sales and distribution.
